Chequered Swallowtail Butterfly

Chequered Swallowtail Butterfly (Papilio demolius)
A migratory butterfly common and widespread in the
northern parts of the state, but uncommon in Adelaide.
It can be found in the hills along creek lines.
Usually seen on warm sunny days Spring to Autumn.
(Also known as the Lime Butterfly, Lemon butterfly and
Lime Swallowtail as it is often found on citrus plants)
< Wingspan: 72mm - 75mm.

Monarch Butterfly
Wanderer or Monarch butterfly (Danus plexippus)
Brilliantly-colored the monarch butterfly is among the most
easily recognisable of the butterfly species.
Not native to Australia, it is native to North America.
Immigrated to Adelaide in 1875 from the eastern states.
Wingspan: 92 - 93mm.

Migrate annually from northern Australia
during October to December. Wingspan: 55mm
